gift of giving gala 2019 is set for april 2019
In early April, SSLC hosts the Gift of Giving Gala, a night of elegance that builds bridges between students and alumni, celebrates the success of members of our community, and raises funds for the Student Success Emergency Fund.
The awards presented at the Gift of Giving Gala honor the legacy of the first Black male and female students, Hiram Whittle and Elaine Johnson, the first Black faculty member, Lucia James, a prominent Black alumni, Aaron McGruder, and the influential nature that recent Black alumni have had on this campus and in their daily lives.
The Gift of Giving Gala is a night to remember where admission includes a three-course meal, complimentary top-shelf drinks, live music, dancing, an awards ceremony, and a photo booth! This is all set at The Hotel, a luxurious location right in the front of the university campus.
The main purpose of the gala is to raise money for the Student Success Emergency Fund through ticket sales. By buying a ticket, you are helping to financially support the Black students at the University of Maryland, College Park. Additionally, our sponsors award a student organization $1,000 to support Black student programs at the university.
