The Makeup Society’s Inaugural Beauty & Fashion Expo

This past Friday, October 5, The Makeup Society held its first annual Beauty and Fashion Expo. The President and founder of The Makeup Society, Paris Rowe is a junior here at the University of Maryland. She began planning this event in July, and she, alongside her executive board, was able to see it come to fruition.
The event kicked off with an interactive booth fair where attendees could walk around and interact with student vendors and other fashion and beauty organizations on campus. Some of the feature organizations were Masterpiece, a fashion business club, and M.A.N.E (Maintaining A Natural Essence) which focuses on the health and beauty of natural hair.
The featured student vendors covered all things beauty. On the hair side of things, Ashley Wynter had a booth for her hair extensions and both Jada Burroughs and Omoniola Oladimeji had booths displaying their different types of wigs in different colors, lengths and even curl patterns. When it comes to lashes, Alex Babin had a booth for her mink eyelashes and eyelash extension services. Tionna Jae and Nneka Onyima were two featured makeup artists who had booths displaying their wide array of makeup services offered on-campus.
After the fair, the beauty fun did not end. The makeup artist competition began, and Mia Layne won a $50 giftcard to Ulta. Next up was a Youtuber Beauty forum featuring UMD Youtubers Jaime, Lintta, Nneka, Ominiola and Stephanie. They answered questions regarding their Youtube experience and, of course, all things beauty.
To finish out the night Afrochique did not disappoint with their upbeat performance, and to top it all off the expo ended with a fashion show featuring student models who walked in clothes designed by Isabel Beatriz.
Seeing everyone interact and connect simply from their love of beauty and fashion was amazing, and we cannot wait to see how The Makeup Society will continue to grow in the next few years!
